In addition to the hard work, perseverance and effort students have displayed while completing various culminating learning projects and assessments for the the 1st Semester, many of our students have been participating in our many extracurricular activities: Band, Drama, Basketball and Talent Show. Here are some highlights:
· The Loomis community filled the gym on Tuesday night for the Franklin vs. Newcastle Basketball game. The two undefeated 8th grade teams had a great showing and Franklin took the win. Our 7th and 8th grade teams continue to compete and demonstrate great sportsmanship.
· 5th Grade Band parents are invited to Mr. Jacks classroom for a demonstration. The Franklin 5th Grade Band will play a short concert for you, followed by some discussion and time for questions regarding the 5th grade band program. Please sign into the office and watch an outstanding performance by the Franklin 5th grade band on Thursday, January 24th from 8:30-9:15am. Be sure to check Mr. Jacks’ website for updated information.
· Thank you to all the students that will be participating in the annual PTC Talent Show that will be hosted on January 31st. We look forward to each of them sharing their unique and special talents that they have chosen to pursue and develop through much dedication and practice.
· The Drama Club has been busy preparing for their performances on February 22nd and 23rd by putting in many hours of rehearsing. Be sure to mark your calendars for this special performance.
Franklin has many opportunities for students and parents to be involved on campus. Next week on Wednesday, January 23rd, we will be having our WatchDOGS Pizza Kick-off night for our Watch Dogs program. Dads, please bring your students and come join us to learn more about the program and sign-up to volunteer. If your student is looking to participate in our Athletics program, be sure to check the Franklin Athletics webpage. Girls’ 7th and 8th grade volleyball season begins with tryouts on February 4th and 5th. Track season sign-ups (for grades 5-8) will be held on March 19th-27th with the first practice beginning on March 28th. Franklin is also collecting gently used glasses for the Lions Club “Recycle for Sight” program. If you have glasses that you and/or your child no longer wear, please drop them off to the front office.
With the end of the 1st Semester, we will be sending home report cards with all students on Friday, January 25th. Please be sure to take the time to review the report card with your student. Supporting your child in developing a growth mindset supports them in developing a desire to learn, embrace challenges and persist in the face of setbacks. Asking your child questions about how their efforts have supported their success, what they do when they experience challenges and future learning goals, are all important questions to support a growth mindset. The “Effective Learner Behaviors” on the back of the report card will support your understanding of areas of strength when praising your child’s attributes that support learning. Discussing the “Learner Behaviors” as they relate to their academic progress toward standards provides the opportunity for students to see that they are developing as a learner and you are interested in their growth.
Other important dates to mark on your calendar:

Friday, February 1- No School
Tuesday, February 5- TK-K Parent Night @ HCP 6:30-8:00pm
Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s education.
